Meat Goat Producers Association

We would like to start a Meat Goat Producers Association for the promotion of meat goat production, range management and education of producers and public. It would require help from everyone who is serious about improving the quality of goat meat produced. We need your help to make this work. Two or three people can’t carry the load of a w hole industry. We need volunteers, educators

  1. Do you like the idea?
  2. Would you join such an association? We hope to keep membership at $20/year but realize that may need to be changed in the future.
  3. Part of the membership would help promote our industry and provide us with marketing power.
  4. We need to have a meat quality assurance program (did you know that the maximum amount injected into one site on a goat is only 3cc?
  5. We need leadership and mentorship in the industry. Can you be part of that?

Purpose Statement

The purpose of a Meat Goat Producers Association:

  1. To promote the meat goat industry in all forms, breeding stock, commercial & land management.
  2. To assist producers and future producers with education, uniform animal husbandry skills, information and mentoring for a successful operation.
  3. To develop guidelines of quality that ensure a Meat Quality Assurance protocol is uniform across the whole industry.
  4. To promote genetics that improve all breeds (1×1 Teats, Scrotum Shape, Good Mothering traits, fast growth and parasite resistance).
  5. Advocate for producers by working to ensure universities understand the need for goat science research and veterinarians who are thoroughly trained to address the most common goat issues in addition to urinary calculi.
  6. To provide a network of producers unified in improving the industry, not only as producers but as mentors and educators as well.
